Universal cokingcokers.com presented the:
7th Annual Universal cokingcokers.com Operations, Process, Maintenance & Reliability Delayed Coking Seminar.The seminar was April 15th - 17th, 2003 in Galveston, Texas. The Seminar included "BREAKOUT SESSIONS" the first two days followed by a "QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION" the last day.

Seminar Presentation Topics Included:

  • A "LIVE DEMONSTRATION" by Deltavalve of an actual "FULL SIZE COKE DRUM BOTTOM DEHEADING DEVICE" at the seminar. The Deheading Device was on a flat bed semitrailer equipped with electrical power for hydraulic actuation to fully open and close the device. The demonstration was in addition to Deltavalve's seminar presentation.

  • Safety Review Of Recent DCU Incidents - A person with many years of delayed coking experience will give a Safety Review of the most recent delayed coker incidents that have occurred. The review will consist of incidents, lessons learned from them and possible applications that could be administered and applied of how possibly they may be prevented from occurring in the future. This will be a presentation that everyone can share and learn from.

  • Coke Drum Interlocks - A Houston based company has developed a very useful systematical and methodical program to employ coke drum interlocks. It is a "Turn Key Package" that includes everything, equipment, instrumentation, electrical, logic, MOV's, etc. etc. The program is beneficial not only from the safety aspect, but for training, troubleshooting, maintenance and reliability, and assisting to predict when a valve or actuator problem may create a problem. If you have thought about implementing coke drum interlocks, or evaluating the possibility, you won't want to miss this presentation.

  • Coke Drum Vertical Plate Replacement Benefits To - BP Carson, CA - The presentation will include the installation and the performance of the Vertical Plate Design verses their previous conventional coke drum design. If you have ever thought or wondered about the design this will be your opportunity to here first hand from an actual end user of how and why they opted to transgress from the conventional coke drum design to the Vertical Plate Design. Others have also implemented this design which will also be discussed by.

  • Coker Blowdown Operation and Management - This presentation will be provided by an oil company who has many years of experience with coker blowdown operation and management, as well as design. As we all know coker blowdown systems are not the easiest to operate and maintain. The presentation will provide the important aspects of a well designed blowdown system and key elements of operating and managing the system.

  • Cleaning Of Slop Oil and Blending Of Coker Feeds - Come and listen to Sasol Carbo-Tar Sasol Carbo-Tar present and discuss their process of cleaning up slop oil before it is processed in the coker. The presentation will also include the blending of feeds to the coker. The presentation should prove to be beneficial for everyone to gain some knowledge in this area which is so vital to a successful coker operation and to provide good coke quality.

  • Coker Heater Design & Modification Considerations - This presentation will be provided by a person who has many years of coker heater process design past and present, troubleshooting, revamps. He also has many years of process and operating experience and methods of extending coker heater run length and increasing throughput. So, if you want longer heater run lengths, ideas of how to debottle-neck your existing heater, or designing a new heater, you won't want to miss this presentation. He will also be on the Q&A Panel.

  • Coker Heater Turnaround Maintenance Planning and Preparation Considerations - The presentation will include ideas and suggestions based on the company's many years of experience preparing and performing maintenance on coker heaters. As we all know from experience, there are many unknowns of what repairs a heater may require until it is entered and inspected. However, given the experience this company has with coker heater repairs they can provide a number of suggestions and ideas of what to consider and evaluate prior to a turnaround for budgeting costs, reduce possible downtime and the exposure of the possibility of extending a turnaround. This presentation has the ability to increase anyone's knowledge of the proper planning considerations for a successful coker heater turnaround.

  • Coker Crane Maintenance & Reliability - Coker crane maintenance and reliability has and will always be an ongoing concern. The company that will provide this presentation has been the crane business since the early 1900 hundreds. It has many years of experience in designs for many applications including cokers. They have developed and implemented an excellent program at a number of facilities to assist in improving crane maintenance and reliability and reducing operating and maintenance costs. If want to reduce maintenance and operating costs, increase reliability and reduce downtime, then you won't want to miss this presentation.

  • Fully Automated Combination Drilling Tool - Flowserve will make a presentation on their new fully automated combination drilling including logic. We all know what difficulties are associated with having to change modes of the existing combination drilling tools manually. The greatest benefit of a fully automated combination drilling tool is Safety, which is eliminating exposures to personnel while changing modes.
