Delayed Coking Seminar

in Long Beach, California from June 8th through June 10th, 2004.

Areas of focus include:

  • Coker Unit Safety - A presentation will be made by a company representative who has been involved in investigating a number of coker fire and incident investigations. The presentation will consist of their participation in the investigations, findings, lessons learned and possibly some post audit information.
  • Coker Unit Safety - Shell will be making a presentation on the post audit review of a company wide Coker Safety Audit Review that was conducted several or so years ago. The presentation will consist of the how well the company safety program is performing from the original Safety Audit findings and programs implemented. NOTE: This will be a different presentation from what is being presented at the coking.com seminar.
  • Coker Unit Safety - A presentation will be made by an individual from a major oil company who represented his company and was personally involved in the recent Issued OSHA Coker Safety Bulletin. The presentation will consist of his actual involvement working with other oil company and OSHA representatives, preparing and developing the Safety Bulletin and issuance of it.
  • A Post Audit Review of a Deltavalve Deheading Device - The presentation will include how the technology has benefited the company in the areas of Safety, Profitability, and Maintenance & Reliability. The presentation will also include other areas coker automation that have been implemented.
  • Lessons Learned From a New Recent Coker Startup - The presentation will consist of identifying the problems, and areas of the coker that were encountered during the startup of a recent new 4 drum coker, lessons learned of how to avoid them, and examples of things implemented to correct them.
  • Coker Sludge Injection - The presentation will be given by an individual from a major oil company that has many years of experience with Coker Sludge Injection and with a good number of coker applications within the company.
  • Coker Heater On-Line Spalling - The presentation will be made by an individual from a major oil company and will include some good practices aspects including Safety and Environmental issues associated with On-line Heater Spalling procedure (and issues of overpressure, pluggage, coke drum fallout, soft coke, and issues with using water or steam, etc.).
  • Coker Fractionator Advanced Control - The presentation will include actual case benefits, and rate of returns of designed and implemented advanced control for various coker fractionators. There is a possibility that this could be a joint presentation with an end user, which is awaiting approval.
  • Coker Isolation Valve Actuators - The presentation will consist of current and past problems with the actuators including maintenance and reliability, lockout options, problems, corrections and lessons learned from past maintenance and reliability past problems.
  • Coke Drum Monitoring - A presentation will be made by a company that specializes in Coke Drum Online Integrity Monitoring. The presentation will also include actual case data of a project that was recently completed.
  • Coke Drum Automation - Update on DeltaValve's DeltaGuard coke-drum unheading system, and a presentation about their new worldwide service and support program. Latest developments in coker related technology. Live demonstrations of the full size DeltaGuard and the new DeltaGlide valve transport system will take place daily during lunch periods and in the evenings.
  • Coke Drum Automation - Zimmerman & Jansen has developed and are in the process of introducing a valve for coke drum deheading.
  • Coke Drum Support Structure Repair - A presentation will be made by a company specializing in the repair of Coke Drum Support Structures including concrete, structural steel, grouting, bearing supports and anchor bolts. Condition assessment and case studies will be presented featuring on-line and off-line repair opportunities, as well as emergency response to unscheduled outages (i.e., fire, explosions, etc.)
